Next Badge Testing Day: Saturday 9th June 2018 (from 2.30pm)
All of our term time classes work towards their core proficiency certificates and awards (AKA ‘Badges’). Gymnasts aged 4 years and over work towards their Core Proficiency Gymnastics Awards Scheme which is provided through British Gymnastics. The scheme assists in the progressive development of core skills such as balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination and incorporates compulsory pulse raising activities. There are 10 types of activity and 8 levels of attainment. Gymnasts start on badge number 8 and work their way towards number 1.
We operate Core Proficiency Gymnastics Award testing days outside of the weekly classes to make more effective use of the time and space. It costs £4.00 to attend these additional sessions which includes the presentation of a certificate. Core proficiency badges can be purchased for an additional £3.00.
***We have reviewed the badge testing sessions and have decided that after the one in June we will no longer be operating badge testing. We are a Women’s Artistic Gymnastics club and the badges are designed to assess General Gymnastics within clubs and schools. We will also be looking at upgrading our own in-house certificates system and feel this better reflects the skills gymnasts work towards in their weekly sessions. We hope parents support these changes as we continue to improve club standards***
Please note: We base our classes and structure on gymnast’s age and all-round ability. The core proficiency awards only test a small selection of balance, strength, flexibility and co-ordination activities. They are designed to encourage an active participation in sport and rewards gymnast’s development within these aspects. The outcome of the badge testing does not affect the classes they are placed in.
We cover many of the elements on these badges in the class warm-up and conditioning/flexibility tasks. The apparatus based skills are also covered during their time on each piece of equipment. However, if you would like to help your child practice at home, please find the proficiency award charts below:
